Boatswain’s Mates are seamanship specialists in the Royal Australian Navy, responsible for many of the practical skills required to operate a warship at sea. Their duties can include small boat operations, anchoring and berthing, replenishment at sea, line handling, maintenance of deck equipment, weapons handling, force protection and boarding operations. Boatswain’s Mates form an important part of a ship’s operational team and are trained to work safely and effectively in demanding maritime environments.
