HMAS Torrens Ships Patch Navy
HMAS Torrens, named after the Torrens River in South Australia, traces its origins back to the Royal Australian Navy's post-World War II efforts to modernize its fleet. Discussions for new naval assets began in the early 1960s, leading to the development of the River-class destroyer escorts as part of Australia's strategic naval initiatives. Laid down in March 1965 by the Cockatoo Island Dockyard in Sydney, Torrens was designed to provide anti-submarine warfare capabilities and general fleet support, addressing both regional and maritime defense needs of the era. Its construction and subsequent launch in September 1968 marked a pivotal step in bolstering the nation's defensive maritime capabilities.
